Should i read the game of thrones before watching the hbo series?

As I said above I am wondering which I should do first, the book or Game of Thrones DVD.

A3: I watching the book before I watched the show because I thought it is helpful for me to understand the show. But you know, there might be some differences between the book and the series. Reading the book will make you understand the main storyline of the show! So I think you should read the book first.
